Registration start Brașov Marathon 2018!

The 7th edition of Brasov Marathon will take place ‪on the 21st of April 2018‬. A competition born out of passion for running, nature and mountains of the CPNT community (Nature Protection and Tourism Brașov), but with a much bigger focus on sharing ideas for a brighter future.

We want to start something special, so with this edition we decided to focus our resources on two main themes:

  1. Children – they are the future. Whether we’re trying to persuade them to a healthy lifestyle or guide them towards cultural activities, through the partnerships and programs we are preparing, we encourage all of you to help them enjoy this experience. Because we believe in a better future, at this edition we will be pleased to welcome and support not less than 500 young runners.
  1. Nature Protection – Considering that our impact on the environment is expanding on a daily basis, we strongly believe that it’s everyone responsibility to keep the nature beautiful and clean therefore we would like for you to join us in our Reduce-Reuse-Recycle campaign to raise awareness on this matter so we can all enjoy Nature together with our children. We’ll also try to transmit this message through our logistics and waste management, and especially through the medals and trophies you will win.

With these being said, we are delighted to announce that the registrations for The Brasov Marathon 2018, will begin ‪on the 20th of December 2017‬. An “Early Bird” first registration day with reduced fees, followed by two higher contribution levels, will help support the 500 children whom we expect to see at the starting line in the Town Square of Brasov, looking forward to seeing you all there!

Conclusions after Brasov Marathon 2017

Brasov Marathon powered by Total

The 2017 Winter Edition ended only Tuesday when the last logistics pieces were returned and stored away.

We wish to thank everyone who signed up and participated in the first race of the current season of the Carpathian Circuit, defying, or rather playing in, the snow that reached a meter or so. Congratulations!

We wish to congratulate also the least experienced ones, who chose not to participate during the curent weather conditions, but have accepted to keep their registration for the upcoming edition. We do not necessarily hope that the snow will not be present next year as much as we hope you will be prepared for these kinds of conditions until then, because, as you can see in the pictures, it really was fantastic!

The numer of finishers was absolutely amazing:
229 finishers for the Cross, 333 for the Semimarathon and 263 for the full Marathon. Congratulations champions!
We hope you had a fantastic time!
Before we begin to thank all those who helped us, we would like to present who “us” is: We are CPNT Brasov, in short, the Nature Protection and Tourism Club from Brasov, an organization in existence for over 43 years and which will continue to exist with exactly the same spirit of liberty and altruism. We are not a sports club, although we have some outstanding athletes in our ranks, we are not a multinational or a volunteer center. We are a bunch of young people, nature lovers and outdoors sportsmen, who in their free time either spend time in nature or encourage others to do so. This is what we want to achieve through the three competitions that we organize or co-organize (Marathon 7500, Brasov Marathon and ProPark Adventure Race), for people to get to know nature and thus begin to respect and protect it and also teach others how to do so.

But do not think that if you choose to spend time in nature you are protecting it in any way, or that by taking part in these competitions, you are a part of some eco trend. On the contrary: During these races we waste quite a lot of resources that just end out in landfills. You can not imagine what it means for an organizer to buy a few thousand plastic cups, bottled water or disposable cutlery, for a competition aimed towards the nature preservation. However, we hope this is a small price that we all pay to reach a greater goal, real awareness of what nature means to us and what we have to do to protect it. Everyone was surprised at the consistent snow layer of snow at the end of APRIL.

Some chose to have fun despite the snow, others were put off by it, but there weren’t a lot of us who questioned it’s presence. It’s not OK! It is just another sign that we are in the midst of climate change caused by us, humans. If you’ve ever heard about global warming, a term that has arisen a few years ago, forget about it. That global warming is, in fact, causing severe climate changes that lead to extreme weather phenomena, just like this snowfall in April. We need to become aware of our role in this whole story and to help reduce the harmful impact we are having on the environment. The planet will not disappear, only we risk being “kicked out”. We must stop hiding behind recycling as great nature protectors. Instead of considering recycling as a big part of preserving nature, we must start reducing consumtion in general, in all forms. We must then start considering buying products which we can use for a long period of time without changing them. Only then can we think of recycling.
If we start thinking that it’s okay to buy recyclable packaging, we’ve lost the battle already. What we want is for you, the competitors, to be “ambassadors,” or whichever pompous word you want to use, for this idea and this movement. Begin by making your friends and families aware of these issues and teaching them about the impact they have on the environment and ask them to take action! This is the only way you can fit into an “ECO trend” if you really want to.
This is the ninth year we are organizing such competitions, we started when there were dozens, maybe hundreds of runners. Now we are thousands and we can make important changes!

Only now, when we understand what this contest is about, we can begin thanking those who make it possible.

First we would like to thank both our competitors and the organiers, so we will thank the team of over 120 volunteers who made this event possible, and also the team of competitors who have joined our challenge and who make this event posible, bigger every year.
Secondly, we want to thank our sponsors who, like us, chose to support the idea behind our event, more than the actual competition.
Total România, Autoliv, Decimas, Columbia, Allview, Delaco, Sponser, Coresi, Buff, 1717, Tipografia, Livezile Dobrinoiu and Libra Bank have helped us this year. We thank them for this and we want them to be our partners, just as involved, next year as well.

Speaking of partners, we absolutely must mention Time it!, Team Silviu Balan, NHBike, Eventhor, Amicii Salvamon, the Romanian Red Cross and Fisheye. Without some of them, the contest would not be of a lower quality, but it would not be at all!
We also want to thank our institutional partners: Brasov City Hall, RPLP Kronstadt, Salvamont Brasov, Gendarmerie Brasov, the Mountain Gendarmerie Brasov, DJST Brasov, Brasov Road Police and the Brasov Local Police.

Those being said, we will attach the links to the photo albums and articles (as they become available) from the 2017 Brasov Marathon and before next year’s Marathon, we welcome you to join us at Marathon 7500 and ProPark Adventure Race.

Latest news

The race will take place under the following conditions: We will not allow you to take part in the race if you don’t have winter mountaineering experience, in this way we are trying to minimize the risks of injuries and exhaustion. For a better experience for you and the fellow participants and to discourage the participation for a prize other than self satisfaction, we will not give prizes in cash money. In case you decide not to participate because of the meteorological conditions you can choose to transfer your registration right for next year’s edition for free. More particularities about this option will be made available after the race. When we’ll start next year’s registration process, everyone who did not pick up their participation kit will be invited to register, for free, for the 2018 event. We kindly ask you not to contact us about this aspect before or during the event. (Our efforts are directed for this year’s event). Those who wish to run under this weather conditions, will be asked to sign a declaration (at the ”ridicare kituri”) that they acknowledge the current weather conditions, they have winter mountaineering experience, and the high risks of injury and hypothermia. We apologise for the inconvenience, and ask for you to understand that we are taking these measures for everyone’s safety.

NEWS 21.04.2017 – Part Two

1. Hat or cap
2. Three layers of clothing on the upper body, one of which is a waterproof jacket.
3. Long trousers AND a pair of waterproof trousers
4. Warm, thick gloves, we recommend them to be waterproof also.

We are currently analyzing the possibility to shorten the race track even more.

NEWS 21.04.2017

Due to the weather conditions, the marathon will be a winter one. That is, through heavy snow and negative temperatures. Thus, the equipment announced on Thursday is still mandatory, with the mention that the CROS runners must also have the equipment initially just required for SEMIMARATHON.

Because of the weather, and the fact that pushing through the snow will be slower, we will shorten the Marathon and Semimaraton routes as follows:

MARATON: From Șaua Tâmpei the route goes directly to Poiana Stehil, then to “Băncuță”, Poiana Ruia, then directly to Postavaru Lodge, from where you will descend to the quarry – Carieră , after which the climb to the Crucur peak is done directly on the Yellow Band mark and then the normal route continues.

SEMIMARATON: From Șaua Tâmpei the route goes directly to Poiana Stehil, then descends to the Fântânița Dreptății, from where the route continues its normal course.

Cros: No change to the route, mandatory equipment as for Semimaraton.

Due to winter conditions, please be sure to have dry, warm clothes waiting for you in the start/finish area of Piața Sfatului – we will have a bag space available for you which you are welcome to use. Please bring your belongings in backpacks, handbags or closed bags.

Do not underestimate the risc of hypothermia and don’t hesitate to help other runners if you see they require it.

UPDATE 20.04.2017
As it is now very cold and still snowing, we have updated the mandatory equipment to include:
1. Gloves, and we also recommend having thick, dry gloves as backup.
2. Long sleeve shirt is no longer enough, as marathon runners now need to have one of the combinations :
– long sleeve and a membrane waterproof jacket (min. 10000mm) (2 items)
– long sleeve and fleece (or any thermal long sleeved shirt) and thin wind/rain jacket (3 items).

For the HALF MARATHON, we’ve added the following equipment to the MANDATORY list:
1. Hat/cap
2. Long sleeved shirt (or T-Shirt + Sleeves)
3. Rain jacket (it can be thin)
4. Long trousers
5. Gloves

These are the conditions today. We’ll update you again tomorrow morning and tomorrow evening, at the technical briefing. Do not expect to be allowed to start the race without the mandatory equipment, regardless of your running or mountain experience in general.

Brasov Marathon – 5th edition

Latest news, April 21, 2017

Good day friends, we were also caught in the Easter holiday extravaganza but we’re now back and in full swing of organizing Brasov Marathon.
We have a few important things we’d like to share, now, before the actual race.

First of all, we ask of you to read the RULES of our race. It stands as the foundation of our event. We get a lot of inquiries regarding the race start hours or what is the mandatory race gear.  We would like that such details be very well known by participants not only at Brasov Marathon but at any race you may attend. Reading the rules will mostly answer any question you may have.

All the race events (marathon, half marathon, 10k, kids race) will take place regardless of weather conditions unless any official announcement by us. If there might indeed be a too difficult area around Postavaru changes or shortcuts to the route may occur but those will be announced before hand.

If the weather forecast will show “bad weather” the mandatory gear for the Marathon event will also consist of the recommended gear. More information on this matter will be offered at the technical meeting on Friday.

Brasov Marathon 5th edition RACE schedule:

Friday, 21 April 2017:

*before the start of each event the contestants have to enter the start zone in order to be validated.

(Race numbers will be scanned at this point) we urge participants to make their way to start zone early on in order to be validated.

This year’s race kit consists of:

2. Brasov Marathon bracelet
3. Vegetarian or beef gulas made by “La Ceaun” – it will be offered based on your race number in Piata Sfatului
4. Handmade finisher badge made in “Atelierul Protejat al Fundației Rafael”

The race number must be visible during the whole race!

You will be able to pick up your race kits ONLY PERSONALLY and based on an ID, after you have acknowledged and signed the race waiver regarding the rules of the competition. The rules are available on our website and on paper when picking up the kit.

We will not give out kits to other people or at different time spans then mentioned in the schedule.
