The race will take place under the following conditions: We will not allow you to take part in the race if you don’t have winter mountaineering experience, in this way we are trying to minimize the risks of injuries and exhaustion. For a better experience for you and the fellow participants and to discourage the participation for a prize other than self satisfaction, we will not give prizes in cash money. In case you decide not to participate because of the meteorological conditions you can choose to transfer your registration right for next year’s edition for free. More particularities about this option will be made available after the race. When we’ll start next year’s registration process, everyone who did not pick up their participation kit will be invited to register, for free, for the 2018 event. We kindly ask you not to contact us about this aspect before or during the event. (Our efforts are directed for this year’s event). Those who wish to run under this weather conditions, will be asked to sign a declaration (at the ”ridicare kituri”) that they acknowledge the current weather conditions, they have winter mountaineering experience, and the high risks of injury and hypothermia. We apologise for the inconvenience, and ask for you to understand that we are taking these measures for everyone’s safety.
NEWS 21.04.2017 – Part Two
MANDATORY EQUIPMENT FOR MARATHON is the following:
1. Hat or cap
2. Three layers of clothing on the upper body, one of which is a waterproof jacket.
3. Long trousers AND a pair of waterproof trousers
4. Warm, thick gloves, we recommend them to be waterproof also.
5. THICK SOCKS
WE ALSO STRONGLY RECOMMEND WEARING WATERPROOF SHOES
We are currently analyzing the possibility to shorten the race track even more.
Due to the weather conditions, the marathon will be a winter one. That is, through heavy snow and negative temperatures. Thus, the equipment announced on Thursday is still mandatory, with the mention that the CROS runners must also have the equipment initially just required for SEMIMARATHON.
Because of the weather, and the fact that pushing through the snow will be slower, we will shorten the Marathon and Semimaraton routes as follows:
MARATON: From Șaua Tâmpei the route goes directly to Poiana Stehil, then to “Băncuță”, Poiana Ruia, then directly to Postavaru Lodge, from where you will descend to the quarry – Carieră , after which the climb to the Crucur peak is done directly on the Yellow Band mark and then the normal route continues.
SEMIMARATON: From Șaua Tâmpei the route goes directly to Poiana Stehil, then descends to the Fântânița Dreptății, from where the route continues its normal course.
Cros: No change to the route, mandatory equipment as for Semimaraton.
Due to winter conditions, please be sure to have dry, warm clothes waiting for you in the start/finish area of Piața Sfatului – we will have a bag space available for you which you are welcome to use. Please bring your belongings in backpacks, handbags or closed bags.
Do not underestimate the risc of hypothermia and don’t hesitate to help other runners if you see they require it.
As it is now very cold and still snowing, we have updated the mandatory equipment to include:
1. Gloves, and we also recommend having thick, dry gloves as backup.
2. Long sleeve shirt is no longer enough, as marathon runners now need to have one of the combinations :
– long sleeve and a membrane waterproof jacket (min. 10000mm) (2 items)
– long sleeve and fleece (or any thermal long sleeved shirt) and thin wind/rain jacket (3 items).
For the HALF MARATHON, we’ve added the following equipment to the MANDATORY list:
2. Long sleeved shirt (or T-Shirt + Sleeves)
3. Rain jacket (it can be thin)
4. Long trousers
These are the conditions today. We’ll update you again tomorrow morning and tomorrow evening, at the technical briefing. Do not expect to be allowed to start the race without the mandatory equipment, regardless of your running or mountain experience in general.
END OF UPDATE.
Brasov Marathon – 5th edition
Latest news, April 21, 2017
Good day friends, we were also caught in the Easter holiday extravaganza but we’re now back and in full swing of organizing Brasov Marathon.
We have a few important things we’d like to share, now, before the actual race.
First of all, we ask of you to read the RULES of our race. It stands as the foundation of our event. We get a lot of inquiries regarding the race start hours or what is the mandatory race gear. We would like that such details be very well known by participants not only at Brasov Marathon but at any race you may attend. Reading the rules will mostly answer any question you may have.
All the race events (marathon, half marathon, 10k, kids race) will take place regardless of weather conditions unless any official announcement by us. If there might indeed be a too difficult area around Postavaru changes or shortcuts to the route may occur but those will be announced before hand.
If the weather forecast will show “bad weather” the mandatory gear for the Marathon event will also consist of the recommended gear. More information on this matter will be offered at the technical meeting on Friday.
